Substances containing hydrogen sulphide can lead to corrosion and hydrogen-induced cracking (HIC) in steel containers. Sour gas-resistant steels with a low sulphur and phosphorus content and a high degree of purity prevent this.
These steels are tested for HIC in accordance with NACE TM 0284, whereby samples are immersed in a hydrogen sulphide solution for 96 hours and then examined for cracks. Crack sensitivity is assessed using the criteria CLR (crack length ratio), CTR (crack thickness ratio) and CSR (crack sensitivity ratio).
HIC-resistant sheets are used in applications where there is a risk of hydrogen-induced cracking, e.g. in the oil and gas industry, the chemical industry, power plant construction and water management, but also for H2 storage tanks to prevent hydrogen embrittlement.
Our range includes HIC-resistant sheets in thicknesses from 8 to 80 mm and widths from 2,000 to 3,800 mm. Particularly noteworthy are the widths over 3,000 mm, which are rarely available in Europe. The lengths of the sheets can be up to 14,000 mm.
The sheets are available from us in the grades SA516 GR60/65/70 and P355NL2/NH. We are also the only dealer in Europe to offer HIC-resistant sheets in EN quality.
